Nature Valley Lower Level Reveal

A few weeks ago, I shared the design plans for the Nature Valley lower level and today, it’s time for the reveal! This was such a fun project to work on since I have already worked with this sweet family on another project. They have a beautiful home, but their lower level wasn’t working as well as it could for this busy family that loves to entertain. Now, let’s get to the before and afters.

Bar + Sitting Room

Before
This lower level is a walkout basement and gets a lot of natural light, but was lacking styling and consistency with the rest of the clients’ home. The bar was a U-shaped design that took up a lot of space and was not very practical. This room has a lot of space, so we wanted to use it more practically for a wet bar along the back wall and room for a sitting area.

Rendering
In the rendering below, you’ll see how the plan was to move the bar to the back wall, opening up the room for more possibilities with a seating arrangement.

After
And here is what the space looks like today! Can you believe it?! By clearing space in the middle of the room and moving the cabinets to the back wall, the dream of a wine sitting room came true.

Lower Level Design

The Cambria Skara Brae design steals the show in this wet bar. It is so beautiful and by continuing the quartz from the countertop up the backsplash, it truly makes a statement. Select Surfaces did an incredible job installing it and I love the veining that is shown behind the bar. A long walnut shelf below the TV provides a spot for electronics and dishware and the smaller shelves on either side of the TV allow for more decor.

This paint color is Urbane Bronze, which is Sherwin Williams 2021 color of the year and it is so pretty on these cabinets! Sean’s Cabinetry did an amazing job with these custom cabinets.

Fireplace

Before
On the other side of the bar was a two-sided fireplace that was lacking in style and character. We talked about ways to make the fireplace feel more incorporated into the space, than a structure that divides the two rooms.

Rendering
The recommendation was to add board and batten on the right side of the fireplace in the sitting room and the left side in the living room. We also planned on continuing the herringbone tile pattern around the fireplace.

Now, this herringbone brick tile wraps around the side to the living room, helping it appear as one cohesive structure. The board and batten got painted Urbane Bronze, which is the same color as the cabinets.

Living Room

Before
In the living room, we had talked through ideas for this large built-in about whether to remove it or rework it. Since it had a lot of great storage and fit the space really well, the plan was to rework it to fit the new design.

Rendering
The plan for the living room was to get new furniture to allow for more seating and paint the built-ins the same color as the cabinets and board and batten.

After
And here is the space now! The built-ins look so much better with a new paint color, hardware, and the speaker + glass doors removed.

To cozy up the space, new carpet was installed on the stairs and throughout the living space. The walls were also painted Repose Gray, which brightened up this space a lot too.

Leather recliners provide a spot for lounging and relaxing and a large comfy sectional adds a lot of seating to this space!

The hallway got a new look with LVT flooring installed and this beautiful buffet cabinet that added detail to this spot.

Wine Cellar

Before
This closet was previously being used as a spot for storing games, toys, and other miscellaneous items. It’s located right at the bottom of the stairs, so the clients wanted to turn it into a wine cellar.

After
And that is just what they did! With a glass door, this cellar is now a stunning view when you first walk down to the basement. Custom walnut shelving and cabinets are a beautiful design on the back wall and provide space for storing bottles. On either side wall, there are metal racks for additional storage. A new light illuminates the space and showcases this beautiful room.
