Mountain Modern Main Level

The Mountain Modern Reno is complete! This was such a sweet project to work on with amazing clients. After experiencing water damage in their house and living elsewhere during construction, they were ready to come back home to their new beautiful space. Building with Bellin did an amazing job on the remodel of this home and Chelsie Lopez captured the transformation perfectly.

In this post, we’ll focus on the main level including the kitchen, living + dining, primary suite, and main bath which also functions as the kids bath.

Mountain Modern Main Level + Kitchen

The Design

Throughout this home, our goal was to incorporate a mountain modern feel that leaned more to the traditional side in some selections. For the kitchen, we worked through a couple of different iterations before landing on creamy white perimeter cabinets with a wood island. The plan was to remove walls separating the kitchen, living, and dining to create an open concept. For the materials, we used a combination of wood tones, mixed metals, and earthy colors.

By removing walls and opening up the staircase, you can now see the living room, dining, and kitchen when you walk into the home. This one large open space works so well for a family that loves to host. White oak flooring was installed throughout the main level and the walls and millwork were painted Sherwin Williams Snowbound, which is one of my all time favorite paint colors.

A new railing features wood newel posts and rails with black metal balusters for a modern look.

A large window over the sink gives the impression of indoor / outdoor living. New black interior windows throughout the home give a nod to that mountain modern look.

To provide definition between the kitchen and dining, we added a wall of cabinets. The last cabinet is only a lower to provide open countertop space for laying out food and drinks that can be easily accessed from the table.

With seating on two sides of the island, there is plenty of space for people to gather and sit. We were also able to incorporate additional storage in the island for extra serving dishes, holiday ware, and more.

In the kitchen, our goal was to maximize the space with functional and practical updates. On the end of the island, we added open shelving for cookbooks and knick knacks as a decorative touch that looks pretty upon entering the home.

The hood wall features open shelving, a pantry cabinet, and an appliance garage that hides away countertop appliances.

Inset cabinetry is painted Sherwin Williams Toque White, providing a beautiful complement to the wood floors and island.

Delta’s Trinsic faucet in matte black is the perfect definition of mountain modern with it’s sleek design. Handmade looking Riad tile from The Tile Shop has a slight sheen which reflects the beautiful light coming in from the window above the sink.

Black and gold pendants over the island feature a dome shape which give an organic feel amidst the square lines of the cabinetry.

Since this kitchen already had a fireplace, we knew we wanted to keep it and make it part of the new design. By using plaster in place of the previous brick, the updated look is clean and modern, allowing it to accentuate the kitchen rather than compete with it.

Mountain Modern Primary Bath

The Design

Though this bathroom is small, the goal was to make a design impact through reeded doors, timeless finishes, and beautiful details.

Before

After

We mixed finishes in this bathroom, which is always something I love to do. The polished nickel plumbing fixtures added an elegant feel. The Delta Cassidy line has beautiful details that bring in the timeless look these clients love. Matte black was used in the mirror and light fixture.

The 2″ marble hexagon tile pairs beautifully with a reeded wood vanity. In the shower, we went with a classic subway tile that has the perfect amount of sheen that reflects light from the window.

To make the most use of the space, we continued the countertop under the window and included a couple of drawers to make a makeup vanity spot. Although the footprint of this bathroom didn’t change, it’s much more functional and bright.

Mountain Modern Main Bath

The Design

Last but not least for this mountain modern main level, we have the main bath which is also used as the kids bath! The plan for this space was to incorporate some arched mirrors, matte black fixtures, and darker floor.

The reeded vanity was a happy accident in this space, but now I can’t imagine it any other way! It is a beautiful way to tie this bathroom to the primary, while it also gets it’s own personality. The tile is a dark limestone and brings together the matte black plumbing fixtures so well.

These arched mirrors add a little detail above the vanity and were such a great price too!

For the shower, we kept it simple with a stacked white tile. I love how this bathroom turned out!

Thanks for reading about the Mountain Modern Main Level – stay tuned for the lower level coming soon!
