Valentine’s Day is almost here and it’s one of my favorite times of the year to spread joy! Since we all have different love languages, this guide includes 3 ways to share the love with those in your life. You’ll find ideas for words of affirmation, quality time, and gift giving. Plus, everything in this guide support MN small businesses!
1. Words of Affirmation
The first idea is sending a card because everyone loves getting fun mail! Especially for those in your life that value words of affirmation, writing a thoughtful card is a simple and easy way to make their day.
You can download the free card printables HERE. Just print off the cards below on cardstock, cut it along the middle horizontal line, fold them in half, and you’ve got 2 cards to send in the mail.
2. Quality Time Ideas
If the person you want to celebrate just loves being together, scheduling some quality time might be more their style! Whether this is a date with your spouse or time spent with a friend, these ideas are a few options around the Twin Cities that are fun and unique.
City Experience
For a fun mid-day activity, start by grabbing a coffee at Spyhouse Coffee in the North Loop. The large windows are great for feeling like you’re outside on a winter day and they’ve got some of the best coffee in the metro.
Then head to the Foshay Observation Deck, which is located on top of the W Hotel in Minneapolis. It’s less than $10 to get access to the 31st floor, which is home to the Observation Deck where you’re able to get a beautiful view of the city.
Climbing + Brewery
My sister and her friends went to Minneapolis Bouldering Project last year and they said it was a blast! Right now, you’ll have to make a reservation on their website, but you can purchase a day pass which gets you the gym for the whole day include bouldering, training areas, and yoga and fitness classes.
And once you’re done climbing, just a walk away is one of our favorite breweries. We love Pryes Brewing Company for their beer, but also for the vibe. They’ve got unique beers on tap, along with a small menu that features pizza and starters.
Tropical Getaway
If you’re in need of a tropical getaway in your own backyard, plan a day at the Como Zoo and Conservatory. There is a suggested donation of $4 per adult. You’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a warmer place with the beautiful colors and humid air. Walk through the gardens for an afternoon that gives you a break from winter!
After walking in the conservatory, head to Mother Co. Plants in St. Paul to purchase a new plant for your home.
Outdoor Adventure
For those that love the outdoors, plan a day enjoying the snow! The Tamarack Nature Center is located in White Bear Township and it’s a great place to cross-country ski or snowshoe. They’ve got a 1K, 3K, and 4K trail you can choose from. This is super close to our house and we love going there to spend the afternoon outside.
After you’ve enjoyed the outdoors, head to Brickhouse in downtown White Bear Lake for a special Valentine’s menu they’re offering between February 12 and 14th. They also have igloo dining during the winter if you’d like to continue enjoying the outdoors.
3. Gift Ideas
And finally, a few gift ideas for those in your life that love getting gifts! These are all small businesses that could use our love this year too whether it’s through purchasing a gift card, good, or service.
