This was such a fun bathroom remodel with Tschida Construction! Prior to the remodel, my clients had a dark and dated bathroom that felt stuck in the 90s. They were looking to keep the original layout but wanted a much brighter and modern feel.
Along with their primary bathroom, the homeowners also wanted to add a landing to their upper level in place of the open space above their foyer that could serve as a reading nook.
Design
We leaned into an organic feel with the warm wood tones in both the primary bathroom and landing, while the black and gold mixed metals brought interest to the design.

Bathroom
Before
Previously, the bathroom included a large corner jetted tub that took up a lot of space and made the space feel cramped. The original layout had adequate square footage, but the goal in the bathroom remodel was to include a freestanding tub and a larger shower.
After
Even though we kept the original layout, the newly remodeled space feels so much more open and bright. Now, my clients can enjoy both a freestanding tub and a more open shower, complete with beautiful tile details. We also removed the soffit above the sinks, making the ceiling feel much taller.

Before
With a full wall separating the shower and tub, it made the shower feel dark and closed in.
After
By trading out the jetted corner tub for a sleek freestanding tub, we gained valuable square footage back for a longer vanity and additional countertop space. The new tub also makes the bathroom feel much more modern.
The tiled wall behind the tub and shower creates a more cohesive and light feel to the space.

With more space for a larger, more open shower, we created a half wall tiled shower with new glass doors.

I absolutely love the warmth of the wood vanity, especially against the black flooring and light tile. We selected a white oak cabinet in a shaker door style that feels really clean.

This black side table from Crate + Barrel serves as functional addition next to the tub for holding candles and books while soaking.

We kept the separate sinks, but selected two arched medicine cabinet mirrors that provide additional storage. I also love the mix of black and gold accents in the sconces.

For the walls, we chose Sherwin Williams’ Snowbound, which has become a favorite white paint color for me.

The hexagon floor tile and subway shower tile from Bedrosians Tile are the perfect combination.

Details
The black half moon hardware on the vanity is super fun and adds interest, especially paired with the warm wood. I love the mid century modern style it nods to in this bathroom remodel.

The gold accents in the Delta faucet, accessories, and light were a great way for us to mix metals and bring a cohesive feel to the space.

We added a niched shelf into the wall for additional storage near the vanity and sinks, which I love! This has become a favorite among clients and myself as a way to tuck away commonly use items. We included an outlet in this niche for charging toothbrushes. It’s been an awesome way to get items off the counters, while still being in reach for every day use.

In the shower, we added a niche for all the shower items. This element also adds a pop of pattern with the black penny tile from Bedrosians Tile.

Landing
Before
Prior to the remodel, the area above the foyer was wasted space and the goal was to convert it into a cozy reading nook. The railing on the staircase also made the area feel dark and dated.

After
This upper level reading nook is one of my favorite elements of the remodel because the space went from wasted to functional.
We kept the original arched window that adds beautiful natural light, and we brought in a white oak railing with black metal balusters that tie really well into the bathroom.
Even though it was challenging to get the permits for the landing approved by the city, it was so worth it to gain the extra space.

Another part of this landing addition was removing the carpet in the hallway and primary bedroom and replacing it with LVP flooring.

One of my goals with every home is to be intentional with the design. This space is a perfect example of adding both function and beauty.

This project finished up right before the family welcomed their third child and I can picture lots of nights cozied up in this nook reading books together before tucking the kids into bed.
