The Perfect Moody Color Drenched Office Design

Color drenched rooms have been gaining popularity in recent years and I’ve been dying to try this concept out in a design. This moody office was the perfect project for it and I love how the clients were wanting to take on the adventure. After moving into a new home, an office remodel one of the first projects on the list and it turned out beautifully.

Let’s rewind to the design of this space before revealing the before and afters!

The Design

The goal for this office was to create a moody feel with darker colored walls, millwork, and cabinetry. To make this space a dual purpose room, the clients wanted to add a Murphy bed behind the desk that could be pulled down and used when guests were in town. We also planned to incorporate wood floors, gold hardware, and a fun light fixture.

Here’s the rendering of the design before construction began…

Before

The previous space was lacking character and had a dated feel to it. The overall layout was working, but the clients wanted to bring in more functional storage, add a moody vibe, and incorporate elements that worked for their home. This room is right off of their front door, so we wanted to make an impression with the design and also try a color drenched look for a fun surprise.

After

Sean’s Cabinetry did an amazing job bringing the renderings and design to life with these custom cabinets, complete with a Murphy bed and Chelsie Lopez captured the space perfectly in these photos!

This color drenched room is so beautiful in the paint color Roycroft Bronze Green by Sherwin Williams.

The 5 light chandelier white shades and a mix of black and gold adds an elegance to the room and grounds the desk in the space. With a mix of pulls and knobs, the gold hardware adds contrast to the color drenched cabinetry wall.

The space above the cabinets was made to look more intentional by painting it the same color as the cabinetry, adding crown molding, and incorporating picture lights above both of the shelving niches.

When it’s time for guests to come stay, the desk can be moved out of the way to create room for the Murphy bed.

Perfect for guests and pets, alike!

On the other side of the office, we added a chair and accent table for a cozy little nook spot, along with an arched cabinet for additional storage.

Open shelving is always a fun way to display books, artwork, and collected items from travels and loved ones. If you’re struggling with how to style your shelves, check out this post for some tips!

When styling shelves, I love to think about varying heights through picture frames, vases, and trays. Try stacking your books and having the pages facing out, rather than the covers, for a fresh look. Add in greenery to bring the shelves to life. Consider a mix of metals and finishes for a layered look.

It is always such an honor working with my clients to help them turn their ideas and goals into a reality for their home. This office is a great reminder that your home should work for you and that multi-use spaces are the perfect way to maximize on square footage, without having to tear down walls or undergo a major remodel. It was also a special one because it inspired me to think outside the box in my own house and we’re adding a Murphy bed to our nursery this summer!
