Stillwater Traditional Primary Suite

The Stillwater Traditional Primary Suite remodel is complete and features a beautiful transformation of the primary bedroom and bathroom.

Before

Prior to the remodel, the primary suite felt outdated, lacked character, and didn’t fit with updates that had been made to the rest of the home.

Although the floor plan of the bathroom worked well, the clients desired a freestanding tub and additional updates to fit their traditional design style in the bathroom.

The primary bedroom had adequate space, but the clients were looking for more color and details to make it feel like their own. We also wanted to ensure there was a seamless flow between the two rooms.

Design

My clients sought a traditional, yet classic style for their primary suite. The home has a colonial feel and we wanted to bring that style into these two rooms as well. The vision for this space was to create a brighter bathroom with a freestanding tub under the window. Additionally, the designs included color-drenching the bedroom and adding molding details for more character.

The feel of both spaces needed to tie well together and with the rest of the home, while incorporating beautiful soft color palettes and patterns.

Bathroom

The bathroom now feels so much brighter and boasts more character through the details. For the flooring, we selected a marble tile with a tile rug inlay in the middle of the room. One detail I love is the combination of the wall paint color with the trim paint color that adds subtle dimension.

The freestanding tub under the window makes a big statement, especially with the tile surround on the wall.

The white oak inset shaker style vanities bring warmth to the space and pair beautifully with the stone countertops. Surrounding the mirror are gold sconces from Shades of Light.

In the shower, we selected a polished marble tile with light gray grout from The Tile Shop. Interestingly, the tile installer installed the wrong tile in the shower, so during the remodel, we pivoted to not add wallpaper in the toilet room. The tile ended up adding some nice veining and interest to the shower area. During remodels, challenges can arise, but I love getting to help my clients find a solution that aligns with their goals and budget.

Bedroom

In the primary bedroom, we chose to color drench the walls and millwork in Benjamin Moore’s Bootbay Gray.

On the wall behind the bed, we added molding details that lean into the traditional design style my client’s love. Above the nightstands, we chose antique bronze sconces from Visual Comfort.

I love the large wooden dresser paired with beautiful artwork above it. The wool rug ties in the beautiful blue paint color really nicely while adding a subtle pattern to the space.

Traditional Primary Suite Details

I love the details of the primary suite and how even though they are neutral, each material was intentionally chosen to add character to the space. One of my favorite features is the mix of marble floor tile with the rug inlay.

Traditional Primary Suite Bathroom

By keeping the tub near the window, the homeowners can take advantage of the beautiful natural light that pours into the space.

The champagne bronze tub faucet from Delta is part of their Saylor collection, which I love because my daughter’s name is also Saylor.

For the vanities, we brought in champagne bronze faucets from Delta’s Saylor collection, paired with Kohler sinks.

To add additional character to the vanity, we chose cabinet knobs from Amerock Hardware. The crystal element perfectly ties in the style we were going for in this traditional primary suite.

Thanks for reading about the Stillwater Traditional Primary Suite project! I’d love to connect about designs for a remodel or new build that you’ve been dreaming about.
