The Park Ave Cape Cod with Bald Eagle Builders project has been such a joy to work on! When the clients purchased this home, they wanted to rework the layout to better suit their family while adding character details to bring this hundred year old home back to life in a coastal style.
Design
On the main level, our design goals were to create a more open floor plan throughout the kitchen, dining, and living, and lean into the Cape Cod vibe. Read more about the upper level transformation too!
Kitchen
The kitchen was lacking personality with brown floors, walls, cabinets, and countertops. In addition, the layout needed some improvements for functionality.
Our original plan was to keep this wall of cabinetry separating the kitchen and living room, but during demo made the switch to opening up this wall to create a large island with seating.
Since this wall was structural, we had to creative in the way we opened it up without compromising support.
The columns on either side of the island provide support for the wall above and add to the character detail of the home as well.
Now the flow of this home makes so much more sense for a young family that loves to entertain. You are able to see the lake from various angles of the kitchen, living room, and dining room. The open concept also brightened up the entire home.
In the kitchen, the cabinets on the perimeter are painted Wolf Gray by Benjamin Moore – a stunning color! The island is white oak with a clear stain. The inset shaker design of the cabinets is reminiscent of century Cape Cod homes.
The laminate floor adds depth and texture, while also being a great low maintenance and waterproof option with all the foot traffic coming in from the lake.
By paneling the dishwasher and fridge, this kitchen feels even larger and more intentional.
The island hosts the range and drawer microwave on the kitchen side and storage and seating on the living room side.
Wet Bar
This area was previously used as a sitting area, but didn’t really flow with the rest of the space. Since it’s right off the sliding doors to the deck and lake, a wet bar was the perfect solution.
We continued blue and wood combo from the kitchen into this space for continuity. Bench seating provides a spot to sit and additional storage too. Shelving holds and displays liquor and the quartz is continued up the backsplash for a clean look.
Fireplace
Before the remodel, this fireplace was overpowering the room and didn’t fit the Cape Cod style the clients love.
We updated the look by removing the built-ins on either side and wrapping the fireplace in a beautiful stone. A reclaimed mantle adds the perfect coastal feel.
Entry
With this entry right off the kitchen, we wanted to create a space that felt intentional and functional. Here it was before…
…and now! It’s so much brighter and coordinates with the rest of the home so well. We squared off the coat closet, which now helps define this space and allowed us to add a bench for seating and shoe storage with hooks above.
By using the same color of the kitchen cabinets for the front door, the coastal theme is carried throughout the entire home.
Updating the railing and adding tongue and groove shiplap to the ceiling brought in those character details the clients adore.
Guest Bathroom
Also located on the main level is a guest bathroom. The space felt dark and dated before the remodel.
Now, it’s light and airy and reflects the Cape Cod style so well. The white oak vanity pairs perfectly with the beautiful quartz, which is a design by Cambria called Portrush.
For plumbing, we went with the Saylor collection by Delta which is such a great nod to the coastal style. It was a fun tie in because this collection was shown at KBIS when my daughter Saylor was about a year old!
