This modern office for Flom Films is quite the transformation! These clients, like so many others, are now working from home and wanted their office to be a place that reflected them, their life, and their style. It’s not only a spot for them to work, but where they run their business and work on amazing videos for couples and other small businesses. Since they were used to working in coffee shops, they wanted this to be a space they could come to every day that left them feeling inspired. Before we check out the reveal, let’s take a look back at what this space was before and the design plan.
Before
The previous space functioned well, but was lacking interest and style. Previously, the clients had installed a butcher block desk that fit two chairs and gave them a large work space. Since the rest of the space was a blank slate, the plan was to add style and make the space feel complete. It is right off their front door and one of the first rooms people see when coming to their home, so we really wanted to focus on adding a statement to the wall above the desk.
Mood Board
As we kicked off the project, we started with a mood board to get a feel for the overall inspiration. Pinterest is my go-to place for ideas and there are so many inspiring office spaces. The design elements we wanted to incorporate included a vertical shiplap wall behind the desk, floating shelves, and black and wood decor. In any space, I love to bring in greenery as well to bring life to the space. We wanted to create a modern office vibe that also felt cozy and comfortable since they spend their days in this room.
Renderings
Once we had selected the materials and decor for the space, it was time to move to the renderings! These showed the clients what their space could look like and also helped them decide on the color for the vertical shiplap wall.
Here are the options they were deciding between:
Option One – SW Peppercorn
Option Two – SW Snowbound
Option Three – SW Escape Gray
The clients were originally thinking of going with a lighter color, but once they saw the options above, they decided to go bold with SW Peppercorn! I loved that the renderings pushed them out of their comfort zone and into a bolder option.
Another idea presented through the renderings was to use the current closet as space for additional storage with a bookshelf and baskets.
In the rest of the space, the plan was to swap out the light fixture and add a leaning bookcase for the printer, speaker, and more storage.
Modern Office After
And now time for the reveal! After the clients installed the shiplap and floating shelves, we had a styling session to complete the look. On the shelves, we were able to incorporate personal items like cameras and Bibles, along with decor that fit the style of the space.
A new semi-flush mount light gives light to the space and coordinates with the desk lamps too! Storage units below the butcher block desk divide the space between the chairs and also provide a spot for filing away papers, invoices, and other business needs.
The custom logo sign from an Etsy shop truly makes this space feel so personal and custom. The Peppercorn paint color turned out beautifully and complements the sign so well too!
The color adds depth and interest to the wall. As the clients have been updating the rest of their home, they’ve been wanting to incorporate character into the rooms and this vertical shiplap was the perfect solution to this wall.
Now once guests enter their home, they are greeted with this beautiful office that reflects the clients’ style and business.
I love how the shelves provided them space to display personal items like these Bibles from the client’s grandma and vintage cameras they have collected. The maple shelves stand out beautifully against the dark wall too.
The wood wall clock on the left side complements the butcher block so well.
Who wouldn’t want to work in this space?!
This was such a fun project to work with my clients on! It is a space where they love to work and is a reflection of the beautiful work they create for their own clients as well. Josh and Lisa created a video sharing about their experience with Willaby Way and what they love about their office that you can watch HERE!
