It’s time to proudly reveal the Hopkins on the Hill Kitchen with Stoltz Remodeling! This project was so special because I had worked with these clients previously on their basement and now it was time for the kitchen. There are so many beautiful details in this space! Let’s dive into what the space looked like before and then the design.
Before
Before the remodel, the layout felt blocked off with a small island and peninsula, plus a fridge in the middle of it all. The goal was to rework the space to incorporate a large island with seating and open up the space.
On the other side of the room, our goal was to add cabinetry for practical storage and convert the window into a sliding door for easier backyard access.
Design + Renderings
The home has a traditional style that you get a sense for as soon as you drive up the hill and see the columns and shutters on the exterior. Once you get inside, there’s checkered tile in the entry, bead board on the walls, and beautiful character details. Our goal was to bring those classic elements from the rest of the home into the kitchen for a timeless design throughout.
In the concept board below, you’ll see a creamy color for the cabinets, dark wood tones for the island, sage green accent for the pantry, and traditional style fixtures.
The renderings helped provide a visual for how the new layout and design selections would play out in the space.
After
Although the footprint of this kitchen remained the same, it feels like such a different space! We kept the sink under the window, but reworked the rest of the kitchen to function so much better. The feeling of this space is warm and inviting, which Alyssa Lee Photography captured so well.
The range hood, island, and plate rack are a dark stained cherry that pair well with the original floors that were refinished as part of the remodel.
Large pendants were added over the island for decorative lighting in the space.
The star of the show is the Taj Mahal quartzite countertops that are so dreamy!!
With a large island that now seats four stools, this kitchen is perfect for entertaining and everyday life.
Cabinet hardware can make such an impact on the look and feel of cabinetry and these knobs and pulls are no exception. The traditional style ties in the details in the rest of the home beautifully.
Coffee Bar and Pantry
The other half of the kitchen now functions as an appliance garage and pantry and is painted Evergreen Fog.
On the left side of these cabinets, there is space for the microwave above and a full coffee station below that can be tucked away and out of sight when not in use.
The Details
Plate Rack
There are so many amazing details in this kitchen including a custom plate rack. The cabinet maker replicated a piece we found online to match the island and range hood – it is perfection!
Island
Backsplash
A 4×4 porcelain handmade looking tile with variation added depth and texture to the walls of this kitchen. We installed it in a stacked layout for a simple and clean look. Under the range hood, there is a stone shelf for housing spices and oils that can be easily accessed while cooking.
