Coastal Transitional Bath Remodel

It’s time to reveal the Coastal Transitional Bath project with Belmont Remodeling! While the square footage stayed the same, small tweaks to the layout and a completely new design totally transformed this space. Let’s check out the design first.

Coastal Transitional Bath Design

Our plan for this bathroom was to incorporate a coastal design style with blue tile, gold plumbing fixtures, warm wood tones, and a light and bright feel overall. The clients had remodeled another bathroom in their home in a similar style, so the goal was to coordinate the two rooms, while also giving this space a unique look.

The Transformation

Before

Previously, there was a large soaker tub in the corner of the bathroom, making the shower feel small and cramped. Since the clients didn’t need a bath in this space and we wanted to maximize the square footage of the shower, the plan was to remove the tub.

After

Now, the shower is the star of the show in this coastal transitional bath. We were able to create a large walk-in, curbless shower that makes the entire room feel larger and more open.

Before

Another problem area in this bathroom was the step down from the toilet area to the rest of the bathroom. The door on the left leads to a bedroom, so we wanted to create a seamless transition between the rooms.

After

The floor was lowered to make the area one continuous level, making it feel larger as well.

Before

On the other half of the bathroom, there is a toilet, vanity, and a door that leads to the hallway. While there was a half wall providing some separation between the toilet and vanity, our plan was to bring the wall all the way up to the ceiling to create more privacy and separation.

After

Although there’s not a specific toilet “room,” the full wall provides much more privacy and gives the vanity its own space as well. By taking the wall all the way up to the ceiling, we were also able to add a shelf above the toilet for storage.

The Details

A white oak vanity brings an organic feel to an otherwise light and bright space. Pairing the wood tone with gold hardware gives it warmth. This coastal transitional bath really shines with the blue handmade looking tile with color variation from Bedrosian. Delta plumbing fixtures with clean lines add to the transitional feel.

There was already can lighting above the vanity, and we decided to keep a simple and clean look by not adding sconces over the mirror.

The curbless shower allows for easy entry and a continuous tile layout in the bathroom. Marble hexagon tiles from the Tile Shop pair beautifully with the shower wall tiles. Curbless showers are a great option to consider for smaller spaces or as an option for aging in place design.

The half wall in the shower allowed us to tuck away the niche for shampoo, conditioner, and soaps, making the rest of the shower clean and seamless.

This bathroom is shared by a mom and daughter, so the double vanity allows them both to have their own sink, while the drawers in the middle provide storage space for hair and makeup items.

Adding a little shelf above the toilet provides a spot for extra toilet paper and toiletries that can be hidden away from the rest of the bathroom area.

The corner by the window is the perfect spot for a laundry hamper and plant. Sconces add illumination to the area here and above the toilet, while also adding a fun detail to this coastal transitional bath.

If you’re considering a bathroom remodel, I’d love to connect with you!
