The Avalon Path transitional kitchen refresh with Stoltz Remodeling is complete! It is such a joy to partner with Dylan and Michelle to bring our client’s dreams to life. This was a special project because it was a referral from the Hopkins on the Hill kitchen we had completed together.

Before
Let’s rewind to the start of this refresh. The overall layout worked well for the clients, but they were looking to rework the closet pantry, add a hood over the range, and create a larger island.

Our goal was to keep the appliances and plumbing in the same spot, but give the kitchen an overhaul with new cabinets, countertops, and lighting.

Design
For the design of this transitional kitchen, we wanted to keep it timeless. Dark green cabinets with a wood island add a warmth to the space and pair beautifully with lighter countertops and backsplash.

After
What a transformation! As you can see, the layout is the same as what was here previously, but the space looks completely different. All new cabinets allowed us to take the to the ceiling, making the room feel taller and more spacious.

Our clients are a young family, so we wanted the kitchen to feel approachable and functional, while also leaning into a beautiful design.

By removing the closet pantry, it created space for a floor to ceiling pantry cabinet with roll-outs and lots of storage. We extended the island and switched the overhang to the other side, allowing more space for stools.

The cabinets are painted Pewter Green by Sherwin Williams that brings a down-to-earth elegance to this transitional kitchen look. Contrasting the dark cabinets is a light quartz countertop and off white subway tile.

The star of this kitchen are the beautiful oversized pendants over the island. With a gold interior, they play off of the finish we chose for the faucet and hardware.

Over the range, we added a tall wood hood instead of the microwave.

On the other side of the kitchen, we opted for open shelving at the end of the cabinet run to allow light from the patio door to flow through the kitchen. It also provides a spot to display cookbooks, dish-ware, and other collected items.

During this project, we also updated the railing to match the transitional kitchen style with new newel posts and metal baulsters.

Over by the railing, the clients are eventually having a custom table built that will match the stain on the island. We replaced the light fixture that was there previously with a 40″ wide chandelier to make more of a statement.

One of my favorite elements to include in any kitchen design is an appliance garage to hide mixers, toasters, coffee makers, etc. In this transitional kitchen, we kept the microwave out for easy access, yet it still feels tucked away in this corner of the space.
