One of the first projects I completed as a new design company was branding for Bailey Alex Photography. This was a very special project for me because Bailey is from my hometown and another small business owner. She’s such a talented photographer and it was a joy being able to create branding for her company. If you’re looking for a photography, I’d highly recommend her. You can check out her Instagram HERE!
Concept Board
Here are the elements that were included in the initial concept board:
- an earth tone color scheme
- a nod to an adventurous spirit with a romantic and carefree feel
- ability to appeal to both her audience in MN and her dream clientele of couples wanting to elope
- combination of modern and traditional elements she wants her brand to encompass
- subtle nods to aspects of her life – books, nature, Minnesota
Initial Options
The initial options included:
- timeless fonts that are easy to read
- an adventurous feel, but not overly modern
- pine tree elements as a nod to Minnesota and travel
- moody and earthy color schemes
With these options, Bailey was able to see what aspects she liked best of the three to narrow it down to final logo. I loved all three of these options and it’s always cool to see which one the client likes best.
Final Logo
The final logo took the typography from the left option above and combined it with the tree icon on the right. We also played around with the typography spacing to get it exactly as she wanted. The colors showcase the boho and romantic vibe, while also bringing a natural and carefree feel to the brand.
Branding Guide
In the final branding guide, the logo, submark, colors, icons, and fonts are shown. This ensures that whenever the branding is used, it will be consistent and clear.
Designing for Social Media
Including social media images in the folder that gets delivered is another part of the brand package. I think it is so important that the logos and colors can easily be incorporated into my client’s website, printed materials, and social media. When designing for social media, you have to keep the sizes and shapes in mind. A circle icon is great for a profile photo, where longer images are perfect for cover photos. Finally, 9:16 ratio images works well for Instagram stories and highlights.
Let’s Connect
A clear brand message is only effective if the logo and branding reflects what you want to be known for. Ensuring that you have a consistent look and feel to your business is so important. It’s a joy to be able to create this for businesses and see how it can positively affect their business. If you’re interested in branding, I’d love to connect with you to chat more!
